CRESAPTOWN — A Cresaptown man was charged with causing a Sunday morning vehicle accident on U.S. Route 220 that left two people injured and forced closure of the road, the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office said.

Randy Garcia Jr., 41, was charged with negligent driving, reckless driving, failure to drive right of center and failure to obey a traffic control device following the 9:30 a.m. crash in the Cresaptown area.

Police said Garcia was driving south when he crossed the center line and struck a vehicle traveling north that was being operated by Jenny Scarborough of Fort Ashby, West Virginia. Scarborough’s vehicle spun and was hit by a vehicle operated by Laura Austin of Hudson, Ohio.

Scarborough and Garcia were taken to the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center for treatment of non-life threatening injuries, deputies said.

Fire and EMS units from Cresaptown, LaVale and Cumberland responded to the scene.

Police said investigation into the accident is ongoing and additional vehicles may have been damaged. Anyone who may have witnessed or been involved in the crash are asked to contact Deputy Rounds of the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office at 301-777-1585.
