Half-Lit

The Oldtown Veterans of Foreign Wars Bluegrass Festival on Oct. 2 will feature Half-Lit from Ridgeley, W.Va., and two other popular area bands. From the left are Roger Shrout, banjo; Arron Vanmeter, bass; Lee Dent, guitar; and Todd Vanmeter, mandolin. All proceeds for the event will go to the VFW Veterans’ Relief Fund, which is administered locally to assist any area veteran, spouse or child in distress. The festival will be held from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Oldtown VFW pavilion and picnic grounds, 6 miles off state Route 51 on Town Creek Road. Black Diamond from Hyndman, Pa., and Bear Hill Bluegrass, Moorefield, W.Va., will perform. A low-priced menu includes hamburgers, hot dogs, sodas, draft beer and free homemade bean soup. Entertainment will be provided for the children with those 12 and under admitted free. Parking will be free. Tickets are available at the VFW Post in Oldtown or by calling 301-478-2197 or 301-689-5070. Personal coolers are prohibited.
