Grant will fund lake tourism study
OAKLAND — Garrett County has been awarded a $20,000 Appalachian Regional Commission grant to conduct a study of tourism at Deep Creek Lake and $384,000 to complete construction of the Cherry Glade Access Road.
The tourism study money will allow local residents, businesses and government to better plan for future development in the area, said U.S. Sens. Barbara Mikulski and Ben Cardin in making the announcement.
ARC funds will be used to study lake visitors by demographics and seasons, analyze second home/rental property revenues, and define spending by category and season at lake-area businesses. Local sources will provide $20,000, according to the announcement.
The Cherry Glade road will improve access to a new commercial site. The county will provide $96,000 toward the project, according to the announcement.
