CUMBERLAND — The Maryland Natural Resources Police concluded a successful Memorial Day weekend with no reported boating fatalities. NRP officers were out in force over the Memorial Day weekend patrolling Maryland’s waterways and public lands.
NRP officers made contact with 2,500 boaters, nearly 6,000 public land/park visitors and conducted 1,300 boating safety inspections. They issued more than 350 citations, 900 warnings and arrested six boaters for operating under the influence.
There were six boating accidents throughout the state, including the explosion of a 32-foot vessel in the South River that injured eight passengers.
