Bear Watch

With the death of a bear that was struck on a Garrett County road, the 2017 total of bruins to have perished on Maryland thoroughfares has inched upward.

On Sept. 8, a female bear of 50 pounds was struck and killed on Stockslager Road near Deep Creek Lake.

That brings the 2017 total to 27, according to an unofficial count maintained by the Cumberland Times-News.
