Stolen vehicle sought after eluding Garrett County police

OAKLAND — Police throughout the region are attempting to locate a green Toyota Tacoma with extended cab after the driver eluded Garrett County authorities Saturday afternoon.

Deputies of the Garrett County Sheriff's Office first observed the vehicle, reportedly stolen from the city of Baltimore, in the area of Lake Shore Drive, at 4:30 p.m.

Assisted by Maryland State Police, deputies attempted to stop the vehicle when a female passenger exited it. She was taken into custody as the driver drove south on Lake Shore Drive toward Mayhew Road.

Deputies pursued the vehicle onto Foster Road and to Garrett Highway heading south. Officers terminated the pursuit as it extended to the Oakland city limits out of concern for public safety due to the high volume of traffic at that time.

The identity of the driver of the vehicle remains under investigation.

Police have not disclosed any information about the female passenger who was taken into custody at the outset of the pursuit.

The stolen vehicle, equipped with a camper top, displayed Maryland registration 60580CD.

Oakland City Police also assisted in the incident.

Anyone with information in the case may contact the sheriff's office at 301-334-1911 or provide tips anonymously to Garrett County Crime Solvers at www.garrettcountycrimesolvers.org.
