Obituary Archive Search Help

— Our web site is updated daily between 9:00am and 12 noon.
The Obituaries page displays today's obituaries as well as the obituaries from the previous week.
Unfortunately, our search engine is currently not capable of searching by date. Hopefully, in the future that will be an option. The only way to search our site is by keyword.
To search for an obituary, type the last name of the individual and the word "funeral" into the archive search box located on the Obituaries page.
The results you get from your first search will only include those obituaries that appeared in the paper since May 20, 2006. To access older archives, which include obituaries from January 1998 to January 2006, you will need to click on the text that states, "Don't see what you're looking for in this list? Search our older archives."
Unfortunately, we lost some of our archives when we switched to our current web site. The time period that we lost was approximately January 20, 2006 through May 20, 2006.
The Genealogical Society of Allegany County, located at 215 Bowen St., Cumberland, has obits dated back to 1993. Their phone number is 301-777-8850 and their mailing address is P.O. Box 3103, LaVale, MD 21504. There is a nominal fee for their services that covers basic costs, such as paper.
Another place that has old Times-News papers archived is the library at Frostburg State University, but they are on microfilm, not on the internet. Someone from FSU can help you find something at that library, but there is a fee.
