Obituary Policy

The following obituary policy will be followed by the Cumberland Times-News.

The Times-News' comprehensive listings of deaths include two types of notices:

* A free notice is offered that lists any visitation and service arrangements only.

* The other type, a paid obituary, is a more lengthy notice, which includes a life history of the person and other information at the presenter's request. A photo may be submitted along with a paid obituary for an additional fee. Obituary information and photos may be e-mailed to obits@times-news.com.

Payment for a paid obituary must be made prior to publication. Credit card payment may be made through Visa, Master Card, Discover or American Express. Information about obituary billing may be obtained by calling the Times-News at (301) 722-4600.

A free funeral notice is also offered that will appear only on the day of the funeral.

Notices are submitted through a funeral director.
