CUMBERLAND — Nola F. McCabe, 88, of Cumberland, went to be with the Lord on Friday, April 19, 2013, at her residence.
Born Nov. 1, 1924, in Great Cacapon, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Esrom R. and Mary Elizabeth (Ambrose) Hiett. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Roy James McCabe, on Aug. 6, 2001; one brother, Elmus Hiett and three sisters, Reta McCabe, Ima Bowers and Thelma Brown.
A founding charter member of Winifred Road Church of Christ, Nola served many roles over the years at the church. She was probably best known as “Momma Nola” at Tri-State Christian Service Camp. She served as head cook and kitchen manager for over fifty years, providing thousands of meals to several generations of campers. She looked on this volunteer position as her greatest ministry. She also worked as an agent for Peoples Life Insurance Company. She finished her insurance career as a clerical assistant at the R.I. Murray Agency, in Keyser, working along with her late husband Roy who owned the agency. After retirement, she was often seen behind a sewing machine making costumes for numerous community theatre productions and church pageants.
She is survived by her daughter, Roxie Bittner and husband Bob, of Apex, N.C.; two sons, Michael McCabe and wife Earlene, of Inwood, W.Va. and Chris McCabe and wife Karen, of Cumberland. She was proud grandmother to seven grandchildren, Rachael Buchanan and husband Pat, Erin Martin and husband Craig, Sarah Jenkins and husband Matt, Michael McCabe II, Connor McCabe, Trevor McCabe and Brendon McCabe, also surviving are five great-grandchildren, Avery Martin, Connolly Martin, Pryce Buchanan, Paxton Buchanan and Piper Buchanan. Nola was happily awaiting the arrival of two more great-grandchildren. Additionally she is survived by a dear sister-in-law, Doreen Hiett and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, (www.scarpellifuneralhomes.com) on Sunday, April 21, 2013, from 2 to 7 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted in the funeral home on Monday, April 22, 2013, at 1 p.m. with Minister Leo Lavin, the Rev. John Herbst and the Rev. Tom Delawder officiating.
Interment will be in Rocky Gap Veterans Cemetery.
