RICHARD C. CALDWELL [Rowlesburg, W.Va.]

ROWLESBURG, W.Va. — Richard C. Caldwell, 79, of Rowlesburg, died Monday, April 22, 2013 at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va.

Born on Dec. 4, 1933 at Oakland, he was a son of the late Richard D. and Helen Margaret (Ashby) Caldwell. He also was preceded in death by a brother, James Caldwell; and a sister, Joan Brown.

Mr. Caldwell was retired as a brakeman, having been employed with first the B & O Railroad and later with the Chessie System. Baptist by faith, he was a deep sea diver in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and was a life member of Nancy Hanks Post 3518, VFW, Keyser.

Surviving are four brothers, John Caldwell of Burlington, W.Va., William "Bob" Caldwell of Deer Park, Douglas Caldwell of Keyser, W.Va. and Tom Caldwell of Burlington; one sister, Helen Brown of Bunker Hill, W.Va.; a stepdaughter, Cheryl Rodeheaver and a stepson, Lloyd Davey, both of Keyser; two step-grandchildren, several step-great-grandchildren,  numerous nieces and nephews; and special friends and caregivers, Jim and Debbie Turner of Rowlesburg.

Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home, Burlington Chapel, on Saturday, April 27, 2013 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Smith Funeral Home, Burlington Chapel, on Sunday, April 28, 2013 at 2 p.m. with Pastor Thomas N. Caldwell Jr. officiating.

Interment will be in the Ashby Cemetery, Crellin.
