— BITTINGER — Martha “Mattie” (Hochstetler) Yoder, 77, of Bittinger, peacefully passed away at her home surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, Oct. 7, 2012.

She was born Dec. 15, 1934 at Nappanee, Ind., to the late Eli J and Sarah (Miller) Hochstetler.

On Jan. 10, 1957, she married Melvin J. Yoder, son of Jonas and Hannah (Wagler) Yoder. He preceded her in death on Oct. 14, 1977.

She accepted Christ in her youth and was a faithful member of the Swanton Mennonite Fellowship Church, Swanton.

Surviving are her nine children, Steve and Barbara (Detweiler) Yoder, Bradford, Tenn., Dayle Ann and Urie Kanagy, Bittinger, presently serving at La Laguna, Honduras, Donna Faye and Andy Byler, Cynthiana, Ky., Donald and Julia (Miller) Yoder, Rutherford, Tenn., Ernie and Wilma (Garber) Yoder, Strawberry, Ark., Lana Sue and Raymond Fisher, Limestone, Tenn., Anita and Marvin Smucker, Chuckey, Tenn., Kevin and Debra (Miller) Yoder, Pickens, S.C., Ellie and Dwayne Miller, Afton, Okla.; 46 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are four brothers, Jesse E. (Wilma) Hochstetler, Nappanee, Omar E. (Wilma) Hochstetler, Milford Ind., Lonnie E. (Verba) Hochstetler, Nappanee, Marvin E. Hochstetler, Goshen, Ind., Earl E. (Erma) Hochstetler, Nappanee; and three sisters, Verda Hochstetler, Nappanee, Lovina Miller, Goshen, Ellen Chupp, Nappanee.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two granddaughters, Crystal Fisher and Gloria Miller; two brothers, Willis E. Hochstetler and Glen E. Hochstetler; and two sisters, Edna Chupp and Sylvia Lehman.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2012 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Swanton Mennonite Fellowship Church.  

Funeral services will be held at the church on Wed., Oct. 10, 2012 at 10 a.m.

Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
