GRACE H. MAXEY [Frederick]

— FREDERICK — Grace Helen Maxey, 96, formerly of Cumberland, and residing in Frederick, passed away Monday, Jan. 6, 2014, at Blossom Place, Edenton Retirement Community, Frederick.

Born June 9, 1917, in Cumberland, Mrs. Maxey was the daughter of the late Daniel Duncan McElfish and Matilda Lavinia (Wilson) McElfish. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Walter Jackson Maxey; and a brother, Charles D. McElfish.

A graduate of Allegany High School, class of 1936, Grace was a homemaker and a member of the Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church where she served as Sunday school teacher for many years. She was also a member of the Women's Society of Christian Services; a life member of the Order of the Eastern Star McKinley Chapter 12 for over 55 years; a member of the September Singers; and a member of the Allegany County Farm Bureau. Grace's interests were centered on her family, sewing, gardening, crafts, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Grace is survived by her daughters, Carolyn G. War-field and husband, Bernard, Frederick and Elaine S. Floyd and husband, Dr. Rodney, Severna Park; and her sister, Annie A. Rice, Cumberland. She also leaves behind her grandsons, David A. Largent and wife, Frances, Hong Kong, Matthew B. Largent, Germantown, Mich-ael B. Floyd, Severna Park, Gavin C. Floyd and wife, Leanna, Trinity, Fla. and Brendan T. Floyd, Baltimore; her granddaughter, Alana Largent McAuliffe, Frederick; her great-grandchildren, Ian Mc-Auliffe, Brody Largent, Brooke Largent, and Jax Floyd; her sister-in-law, Rose McElfish, Cumberland; as well as numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins.

Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland,  ( on Friday, Jan. 10, 2014 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.  

A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Janice Leith officiating.

Interment will be in the Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Matthew Largent, Michael Floyd, Gavin Floyd, Brendon Floyd, William Rice, Paul Rice, and Dr. Charles McElfish.

The family wishes to give special recognition and thanks to the staff at Blossom Place Edenton Retirement Community for the love and gentle care they gave to Grace, our mother, for the last five years.
