MARCELLA G. MEEKS [Cumberland]

CUMBERLAND — Marcella Gwendolyn Meeks, 93, of Cumberland, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Thursday, Nov. 28, 2013, at the Lions Center for Rehabilitation and Extended Care.

Born Oct. 2, 1920, in Cumberland, Mrs. Meeks was the daughter of the late Sanford Hayes Hardy and Clara Ruth (Hudson) Hardy.  She was also preceded in death by her husband, Arthur V. Meeks; a grandson, Drew Meeks; four brothers, Lemual Virgil Hardy, Sedrick Forrest Hardy, Eastman Abdale Kenny and Oscar Virgil Kenny; a sister, Nellie Alfreda (Hardy) Davis and was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

A homemaker, Marcella had a sweet spirit, which got sweeter with each year. She was always content with life and never complained, no matter how bad she felt. When asked how she was feeling, she would respond, “I feel good.” Her beautiful smile will always be remembered.

Marcella is survived by her children, Gwen Mercer, of Hampton, Va., Forrest Meeks and wife Caroline, of Wilmington, N.C., Joy Spataro and husband James, of Ridgeley, W.Va. and Rayne Arbour and husband Michael, of Tampa, Fla. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Misty Mercer, of Newport News, Va., Steven Mercer, of Hampton, Va., Bryson Meeks, of Baltimore, Jenna Meeks, of Wilmington, N.C., Seth Arbour and Arielle Arbour, both of Tampa, Fla. and her great-grandchildren, Addison Meeks and Lillian Meeks, both of Baltimore and Maya Mercer, of Newport News, Va.

Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, (www.AdamsFamilyFuneralHome.com) on Sunday, Dec. 1, 2013, from 2 to 4 p.m.

A funeral service will be conducted in the funeral home on Monday, Dec. 2, 2013, at 11 a.m. with Pastor David Hattenfield officiating. The family will also receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Interment will be in Davis Memorial Cemetery.

Marcella spent the last seven years of her life as a resident of Lions Center. The family would like to thank the staff at the Lions Center for all the love and care they provided to her and support they gave us. They made us feel like family and they will remain in our hearts as we fondly remember special times we shared together with mom.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Family Council of the Lions Center, Seton Drive Extended, Cumberland, MD 21502 or the Salvation Army, Post Office Box 2467, Cumberland, MD 21503-2467.
