MABEL R. GRIFFITH [Friendsville]

Cumberland Times-News

— FRIENDSVILLE — Mabel Ruth (Frazee) Griffith, 90, of Friendsville, died peacefully Sunday, Oct. 28, 2012, at her home.

Born April 30, 1922, in Fearer, she was the daughter of the late Clark and Daisy (VanSickle) Frazee. She was also preceded in death by her loving husband of 53 years, Harold James Griffith, whom she married on Dec. 25, 1948; four brothers, infants, Grover Clark and Harry, Emerson and Charles Frazee and sister, Ruby Ryan.

Mrs. Griffith was a homemaker and a member of Asher Glade Church of the Brethren.

Mabel grew up in the Friendsville area and attended a one-room school house at Asher Glade. The family heard many wonderful stories of that experience. She worked for a time in Firestone Aircraft, in Akron, Ohio, as a Rosie the Riveter. She then settled down to raise a family. Mabel was a devoted wife and mother.

She is survived by a son, James E. Griffith and wife Patty, of Morgantown, W.Va.; a daughter, Sharon K. Buckel and husband Gary, of Bittinger; two sisters, Bernice Rodeheaver and Delores Miller and husband Robert, all of Friendsville; four loving granddaughters, who will miss her dearly, Kandice (Buckel) Smith and husband Tyler, of Chester, Leslie (Buckel) Stevens, of St. Leonard, Trina (Griffith) Prinkey and husband Mike, of Dunbar, Pa. and Jamie Griffith, of Henrico, Va.; five great-grandchildren, Braeden and Baylee Stevens, Madeline and Jacob Smith and Ruth Prinkey. She is also survived by a very special niece and special nephews.

Mabel suffered with chronic pain everyday but would say “it could be worse” and was never bitter. She was an inspiration to her family and friends. We will miss her wonderful wit and sense of humor.

The family would like to thank Mabel’s caregivers, without whom she could never have stayed in her home, Dory Miller (sister), Darlene Lawson (niece), Bernice Rodeheaver (sister), Phyllis Lowe, Leota Friend, Sharon VanSickle, Terry Friend, Sue Harlinski and Sandra Yoder.

Friends will be received at Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 943 Second Ave., Friendsville, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted in the funeral home on Friday, Nov. 2, 2012, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Daymond Schmuck and the Rev. Ed Moore officiating.

Interment will be in the Addison Cemetery.

Expressions of sympathy may be directed to Asher Glade Church of the Brethren, Mill Run Mercy Chapel or Hospice of Garrett County.
