FROSTBURG  — Phyllis Emily Thomas, 88, of Frostburg, went to be with her Lord on Sunday, Aug. 18, 2013, at the Frostburg Village Care Center.

Born Oct. 6, 1924, in Baltimore, Phyllis was the daughter of the late George Lane and Alma A. (Anacker) Lane. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Elizabeth C. Grosscup and Margaret “Marg” B. Chapman; her brother, James F. “Fred” Lane and her former husband, Wilbur “Webb” Thomas.

Phyllis co-owned a dressmaking shop during the years of World War II. In 1971, she began a home seamstress business, “The Busy Thimble.”

Phyllis relocated from Baltimore County to Frostburg in 1991.

A lifetime woman of faith, Phyllis served as Deacon, Elder and choir member at Hope Presbyterian Church, Baltimore. She continued serving at First Presbyterian Church, Frostburg. Her love of music was evident, whether singing in the choir or for weddings.

During her years in Allegany County, Mrs. Thomas was active in the Frostburg Senior Center, Quilting Club, Garden Club and Lions Club. She also enjoyed being a painter, scrap-booker and card-maker.

Following a disabling stroke in 1992, she went on to complete a quilt for each of her four grandchildren and a special niece, Marsha Chapman Reeder.

Survivors include her daughter, Stephanie Thomas Flanigan and her husband David, of Frostburg; her son, Dale L. Thomas and partner Vicki Jester, of Baltimore; one sister, A. Adele Sinclair, of Mount Airy; four grandchildren, Erik J. Hanson, Erin Flanigan Caskey and husband Chris, John L. Flanigan IV and Michael C. Thomas and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be conducted at Calvary Baptist Church, 14613 McMullen Highway, Cresaptown, on Thursday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Bruce McBride officiating.

The family would like to thank the care staff at Frostburg Village and the WMHS hospice nurses for the loving compassionate care provided to Mrs. Thomas.
