Together Again

CUMBERLAND — Norma Marie (Davis) Chaney, 92, of Cumberland, passed away on Friday, Aug. 2, 2013, at Western Maryland Regional Medical Center.

Born Feb. 8, 1921, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Rebecca (Davis) and Walter J. Jenkins. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, John S. Chaney, who passed away June 7, 2011, and a son-in-law, James “Bromo” Ellsworth Jr.

Norma worked at the Kelly Engineering during World War II and retired from Celanese Fibers Corporation of America in 1981 after 27 years of service. She also was employed at Curtis Confectionary and Bernstein’s Furniture in Cumberland. She was a member of the Second Baptist Church.

Norma is survived by one daughter, Janet Lee Ells-worth; one son, Dr. George McKenney and wife Katherine McKenney MS, CRNP; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.  

She requested her body be donated to the State Anatomy Board of Maryland. There will be no services.  

Norma wanted to express her deepest thanks to Dr. Huma Shakil, Dr. Gregg Wolff and Dr. Boyd Sprenkle for their devotion in her care over the years.
