MILTON M. “JOE” HEFNER [Cumberland]

— CUMBERLAND —    Milton Montgomery “Joe” Hefner, 82, formerly of Cumberland, but currently resided at Allegany Health Nursing and Rehab, died Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2012 at Western Maryland Regional Medical Center.

Born July 13, 1930 in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Phillip Joseph Gambino and Pearl Virginia Hefner Click and the step-son of the late Joseph Click. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Edna Mae (Evans) Hefner.

Mr. Hefner was retired from the Cumberland Post Office. He worked as an EMT with McDonald’s Ambulance Service, and was owner operator of Milt’s TV and Repair in the 1950’s. He was a U.S. Marine veteran of the Korean War.  

He volunteered for District 16 and Flintstone Fire Department, the Red Cross Disaster Team, and the Maryland State Police Crime Scene Search Team. He  coached Dapper Dan Little League. He enjoyed his computer and researching the Evans family tree.

Surviving are one son, Larry Milton Hefner, Stewartstown, Pa.; two daughters, Kathy Jo Hefner Ryan, Middletown, Teresa Ann Hefner Robeson and husband Connell “Whitey”, Cumberland; six grandchildren, Kevin Lee Hefner, Cumberland, Russell Montgomery Ryan and Amber Laing, Front Royal, Va., Edna Elizabeth Ryan, Middletown, Joseph James Hefner, Stewartstown, Lucy Robeson, Cumberland, and Samantha Alexis Hefner, Stewartstown; a great-grandson, Russell Dennis Ryan, Front Royal; special nieces, Georgette Smith and Edna Wright; and special neighbors, Nancy and Joe Bowers. Joe was also survived by several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Friday, Dec. 28, 2012 from 4 to 7 p.m.     

Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012 at 2:30 p.m with the Rev. Charles Riggleman officiating. Friends will be received at the funeral home one hour prior to the services from 1:30 until 2:30 p.m.

Interment will be in Davis Memorial Cemetery.

Military honors will be accorded by Post 13 Veterans Honor Guard.
