— CUMBERLAND — Charles Franklin Painter III, 65, of Cumberland, passed away on Friday, March 29, 2013, at his home.  

Charles was born on Jan. 12, 1948, in Cumberland. Charles was the son of the late Charles Franklin Painter Jr. and Irene (Lechliter) Painter.

Charles was a United States Navy veteran and served for five years and remained on active duty until several years later.  Charles was a maintenance worker for the Liberty Trust Bank. He also was a Boy Scout Leader Troop 98 for five years. Charles passion was cooking, especially Sunday and holiday dinners for his family. Sundays also included dart tournaments with his sons and family, his last one was just three weeks ago. He was also a talented artist who loved to draw. He was quite the comedian as most would say and he could sabotage anyone in a game of chess.  

Charles is survived by his wife, Gloria Jean Painter; three sons, Charles Franklin Painter IV and wife Patricia, Cumberland,  Jeffrey Alan Painter and wife Rachel, Jonathan Wade Painter and wife Jamie; sister, Dana Crites of Dale, Texas; brother, Jim Painter and wife Penny, Winchester, Va.; grandchildren, Kayleen, Emily, Kelsey, Avery, Ethan, Madison, Mya, Hailee and Marcus.  

At Charles request his body has been cremated and there will be no public service.
