CUMBERLAND — Patricia Ann (Kirk) Shaffer, 81, of Cumberland, died Thursday, Nov. 15, 2012 at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center.
Born May 21, 1931 in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Maurice and Hattie (Smith) Kirk.
She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Maurice J. “Buddy” Kirk, and wife Joan, and Dale Kirk; and, one brother-in-law, Ronald Palmer.
Patricia was a 1949 graduate of Ursuline Academy. In 1956, she graduated from the Franklin School of Science and Fine Arts in Philadelphia, Pa.
Mrs. Shaffer studied ballet at the School of American Ballet in New York. She danced as a principal ballerina in many community productions and for the Moyer Studio Productions. Patricia had also been a ballet instructor at Moyer Studios for several years.
She had been an x-ray technician at Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Shaffer was a life-long member of SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church.
She enjoyed bowling with the Wednesday afternoon AARP league and the Thursday night fun league.
Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Thomas P. Shaffer; five children, Anthony A. Shaffer and Cathy, Greencastle, Pa., Linda Kelly and husband Ed, Rawlings, Kirk Shaffer, Frederick, Mary Rose Koelker, Laureldale, Pa., and Katherine Shaffer, Baltimore; one sister, Katherine Palmer, LaVale; nine grandchildren, Samantha, Sarah, Dustin, Tim, Mark, Brandi, Patrick, Lauren, and Trinity; three great-grandchildren, Sylise, Olyvia, and Jaden; and, many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., 202 Greene St., Cumberland, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at SS. Peter & Paul Shrine on Tuesday at 10 a.m., with the Rev. Gregory Chervenak, OFM, Cap, celebrant.
Interment will be in SS. Peter & Paul Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be grandsons, Patrick Koelker, Tim Kelly, Mark, Kelly, and Dustin Shaffer; and nephews, Michael Kirk and Richard Puderbaugh.
