RONALD L. SHEALLY [Cumberland]

CUMBERLAND — Ronald Lawrence Sheally, 83, of Cumberland, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, Nov. 25, 2012 at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center.

Born April 21, 1929 in Cumberland, Mr. Sheally was the son of the late William Thornton Sheally and Beatrice Naomi (Durrett) Sheally.

He was also preceded in death by his brother, Willard Thornton Sheally; and his son-in-law, David Samuel Ake Jr.

Being a devout Christian, Mr. Sheally loved and served the Lord his entire life. He read and studied the bible on a daily basis, always thirsting for the knowledge and comfort it gave him. He attended bible study on a weekly basis at the Kensington and was grateful for the knowledgeable insight Rev. Kenneth Korns gave him. He was dedicated in his service to Grace Baptist Church, where he not only taught Sunday School, but held any and all positions in the church with the greatest of convictions. His willingness to aide others was apparent by the number of people who sought his advice and wisdom.

Mr. Sheally graduated from Fort Hill High School in 1947, and worked for a brief period of time before being drafted In the U.S. Army in 1951. He proudly served his country overseas in the Korean Conflict. During his service, he was stationed in Japan and served as an investigator in the Counter Intelligence Corps. After his Honorable Discharge from the service in 1953, Mr. Sheally made his home in Cumberland, where he earned his Master’s Degree in Education. He served as an educator with the Allegany County school system for 12 years. Following his employment in the school system, Mr. Sheally joined Carpenter’s Local 1024, where he continued to teach and work until his retirement on Nov. 6, 1991. Still unwilling to become sedentary, Ron accepted a position with HUD and the eventual appointment as President of the Housing Authority Board for the City of Cumberland, where he served until his death.

His fondest memories came from the place of his youth, his beloved Valley Road and Pea Vine Run. It was there he learned faith through his parents, made endearing friendships, and would find love at the age of 13 when he first set eyes on the 11 year old girl he would marry after their high school graduation. He was an avid fisherman and loved his 30 years of surf fishing in Myrtle Beach.

He is survived by his life-long companion and devoted wife of 61 years, Ella Margaret (Maravia) Sheally, Cumberland; daughter, Lisa Kay (Sheally) Ike, LaVale; son, Ronald Todd Sheally and wife Rhonda, Corriganville; grandchildren, Lauren B. Storer, David Alexander Ake, Danielle N. Sheally, and Ryan T. Sheally; and one great-granddaughter, Aaliyah M. Storer.

As per his request, Mr. Sheally will be cremated.

A private service will take place at Maryland State Veterans Cemetery at Rocky Gap at a later date.

The family respectfully requests that no flowers or memorial contributions be given.

Condolences to the family may be posted after Mr. Sheally’s obituary at www.upchurchfh.com.

The Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., Cumberland, is in charge of arrangements.
