CHARLES E. BLAMER JR. [Keyser, W.Va.]

KEYSER, W.Va. —  Charles E. “Charlie” Blamer Jr., 86, of Keyser, passed away into the arms of our good Lord on Friday, March 29, 2013, at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center, Cumberland.

He was born on Jan. 15, 1927, in Keyser, and was a son of Charles Edward and Irene (Harvey) Blamer. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Phyllis (Saunders) Blamer in 1983; his brother Fred Blamer in 1996; and a son-in-law, Robert Spiker.

Charlie retired from Westvaco 8 & 9 Calendar Room, was a former manager of G.C. Murphy Stores in Keyser, Cumberland and Florida and had worked at Malc. Kight’s Garage in Westernport. He was a graduate of Keyser High School and a World War II U.S. Army veteran. A devoted member of Grace United Methodist Church, he loved his church and his Pastor Jim McCune and served as an usher. He was also a member of Boyce Houser Post 41, American Legion, VFW Post 6775, Queens Point and the former El Fidel Club.

A great man to know who never met a stranger. He enjoyed working around the house and yard and was a great fan of NASCAR. Charlie will be missed for his love of family, friends, church and wonderful smile.

Surviving are his wife of 23 years, Nancy (Mullan) Blamer; his son, Fred Blamer and wife Brenda of Brunswick; a daughter, Linda Spiker of Westernport; and his sister, Virginia Mae Shank of Keyser. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Kim Wilson, Robin Schade and husband Mark, Dean Spiker and fiancé Kathleen and John Spiker; three great-grandchildren; a special brother-in-law, Ed Mullan and wife Lynn of Barton; nieces and nephews and his pet dog, Missey.

Friends will be received at the Markwood Funeral Home on Monday, April 1, 2013, from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted at Grace United Methodist Church, 30 S. Mineral Street, Keyser, at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 3, 2013, with the Rev. James A. McCune officiating. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to services.
