— KEYSER, W.Va. —  Mary Ella (Rettig) Minnich, 90, of Keyser, died on Saturday, March 30, 2013 at Lion’s Center, Cumberland.

Born on March 17, 1923 in Crowell, Texas, she was a daughter of West Texas pioneers, the late Ed and Ella (Bell) Rettig.  Mary Ella was the last of her immediate family, preceded by four brothers, Herbert, Preston, Marion, and Samuel Rettig; and two sisters, Martha Rettig and Anne Hibbs. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 34 years, John M. Minnich in 1980; and her son-in-law, Michael E. Flinn in 2008.

Mary Ella was a graduate of Crowell (Texas) High School and Drury University, Springfield, Mo. She was a life-long member of Kappa Delta Sorority. While at Drury University, she met her future husband, John Minnich of Keyser, who was stationed at Fort Leonard Wood. They were married Aug. 21, 1946, and she has lived in Keyser since that time.

She was a member of Assumption Catholic Church. Mary Ella was a long-time supporter of Potomac Council, Boy Scouts of America. Her special interests included needlework, travel and the National Spelling Bee.

Surviving are her children, Mary Martha (Joseph) Wagoner of Weston, John Edward Minnich and Victor Rezendes of Cumberland, Nancy Anne Flinn of Escondido, Calif., David Michael (Vickie) Minnich of Keyser, Charles Douglas Minnich of Keyser and Gregory Timothy (Joyce) Minnich of Roanoke, Va. Also surviving are grandchildren, Michael Minnich of Keyser, Bryan Minnich of Washington, D.C., Andrea Flinn of Escondido, John Minnich, a senior at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Va. and Daniel, Anna, Susan and Ellen Minnich of Roanoke.

Friends will be received at the Markwood Funeral Home, Keyser, Wednesday, April 3, 2013 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m.   

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, April 4, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at Assumption Catholic Church, 34 James St., Keyser, with Father Ivan M. Lebar, T.O.R. as celebrant.  

Interment will follow in Potomac Memorial Gardens, Keyser.
