PAW PAW, W.Va. — Ray Johnson Fishel, 78, of Paw Paw, W.Va., passed away Monday, April 1, 2013, at his residence.
Born Oct. 13, 1934, in Higginsville, W.Va., he was the son of the late Jesse Hannah Fishel and Gladys Lewis Fishel. He is preceded in death by one son, Roger Fishel Sr.; one grandson and two brothers, Charles Fishel and Wilson Fishel.
He was employed by the National Park Service for 30 years. He was an U.S. Army Veteran serving from 1956 to 1958. He was a member of and former president of the Paw Paw Lions Club, and a member of the Lighthouse Assembly of God Church in Paw Paw where he was leader of the Men’s Ministry, a deacon, a trustee, van driver and bus driver.
He was married to Ruby Madaline Miller on Dec. 13, 1958, in Cumberland.
Surviving with his wife are three sons, Ray Fishel Jr., Richard Fishel and Randy Fishel, all of Paw Paw, W.Va.; four brothers, George Fishel, of Augusta, W.Va., Wallace Fishel and Lester Fishel, both of Slanesville, W.Va. and James Fishel, of Raleigh, N.C.; fifteen grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Lighthouse Assembly of God Church in Paw Paw, W.Va.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday April 5, 2013, at 1 p.m. in the Lighthouse Assembly of God Church in Paw Paw, W.Va., with the Rev. Earl Travis officiating.
Burial will take place at the Woodrow Union Cemetery in Paw Paw, W.Va.
All arrangements are being handled by the McKee Funeral Home in Augusta, W.Va.
