RIDGELEY, W.Va. — Barbara “Barb” Allen Johnson, 71, of Ridgeley, died Friday, Oct. 4, 2013 in Ocean City.
Born April 26, 1942 in Chaneysville, Pa., she was the daughter of the late, Harold and Dorothy (Bennett) Cooper. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy R. Johnson; and her daughter, Cathy A. Stavroff; and her sister, Margaret “Peggy” Shaffer.
A graduate of Ridgeley High School, Barb was a homemaker. She was a member of Elks. Barb was preparing for cataract surgery and it was her desire to donate her corneas to medical science.
Surviving are two daughters, Christine M. Jenkins and husband Raymond, Wiley Ford, W.Va., Denease L. Stec and husband John, Martinsburg, W.Va.; a son, Michael L. Johnson and wife Kim, Wilmington, N.C.; seven grandchildren, Keith Neff, Justin Jenkins, Jeffrey Neff and wife Amanda, Angela Schaeffer and husband Nathan, Felicia Stavroff, Ashleigh Johnson, and Cooper Johnson; two great-grandsons, Ashton and Owen; three sisters, Dolores “Dee” Gourlay and her husband Robert, LaVale, Dorothy “Dottie” Flora and husband James, St. George, Utah, and Elizabeth “Libby” Martz, Canton, Ohio. Barb is also survived by several nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. Barb is also survived by a very special friend, Sharon George.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland (www.scarpellifh.com) on Wednesday from noon until 2 p.m.
The funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Dan Taylor officiating.
At Barb’s request, she desired to be cremated, and inurned at Mt. Zion Cemetery next to her husband.
In lieu of sending flowers, the family request, their friends and relative desiring to honor Barb’s memory make contribution to the American Heart Association.
