MABEL A. MURRAY [Soldotna, Alaska]

SOLDOTNA, Alaska — Mabel A. Murray died on Monday, Oct. 7, 2013, at The Heritage Place in Soldotna, after a short illness. She would have been 82 years old on October 16th of this year.  

At Mabel's request she will be cremated and remain in Alaska.

She was born in Cumberland to the late C. Athey Murray and M. Ruth (Ruppert) Murray and, in addition to her parents, was preceded in death by her older sister, Barbara Anne (Murray) Strong of Sand Hill, Idaho.

Mabel is survived by her sister, Martha R Murray and her daughter, Mary Thompson, of Malta, N.Y.; her brother, Joseph A Murray and wife JoAnn and children, Julia A. Snell and her husband, Richard, of Jefferson, Michael Murray and his wife, Annette, of Union, Ky.; great-nieces, Jessica Carfardi and husband, Luke, Jennifer Cole and husband Meredith, Megan and Lauren Murray; grand-nephews, James Snell and Austin Murray; and great-great-nephews, Bradley and Shane Cole and Bryan Carfardi.

She graduated Catholic Girls Central High School, earned her Bachelor of Education degree from Notre Dame College of Maryland and a Masters in Spirituality from St. Francis University in Loretta, Pa. She was a member of the School Sisters of Notre Dame for thirty-five years. After leaving the convent, she held teaching positions in West Virginia, New York State, Idaho and Alaska. She spent most of her retirement years in Kenai, Alaska. Her life’s work was in educating youth and directing Confraternity of Christian Doctrine classes and deepening and clarifying her relationship with her God.

Her loving influence will be keenly missed by her many friends across the country and by surviving family.
