— CUMBERLAND — Rosemary Byrne, of Cumberland, passed away on Sept. 24, 2013, at Devlin Manor Nursing Home where she had been a patient for the past two years.

Born Dec. 6, 1923, in Grahamtown, she was the daughter of the late John Michael and Agnes (Nolan) Canning. Besides her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, John Joseph Byrne, Jr.; her brother, Daniel E. Canning; and two sisters, Florence (Canning) Grabenstein and Catherine (Canning) Kwasny.

Rosemary was a member of SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Cumberland.

During World War II, Rosemary and John were employed at various jobs in Cumberland and Hagerstown. In later years, Rosemary was employed at the Clarysville Inn, Cumberland Country Club and the Shrine Club.

She is survived by three daughters, Patricia Shanholtz, Mississippi, Rose A. Richards, Cumberland, and Christine Holland and husband Gary, Ohio; one son, Dennis Byrne, Mississippi; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff at Devlin Manor Nursing Home for their kindness and care for Mrs. Byrne.

Mrs. Byrne will be sadly missed by her loved ones and will always be kept in their hearts.

A graveside service will be held at Saint Michael’s Cemetery on Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2013, at 1 p.m.
