C. MARTIN STICKLEY JR. [La Vale]

LAVALE — C. Martin Stickley Jr., 87, of LaVale, passed away Saturday, Oct. 26, 2013, at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center.

Born July 16, 1926, in Burlington, W.Va., he was the son of the late Campbell Martin Stickley Sr. and Cora Naomi (McGee) Stickley. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Warren Lee Stickley in 1936 and his first wife, Betty (Bowman) Stickley, in 1957.

The last surviving member of his immediate family, Martin was a graduate of Keyser High School and a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II. He previously worked at Allegany Ballistics Laboratory and retired from Kelly Springfield Tire and Rubber Company. He was a faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church where he was very active.

Throughout Martin’s life, he generously gave his time and labors to anyone in need. He was a well-loved and respected man and will be sorely missed by family, friends, neighbors and the broader community.

Martin is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Carol A. (Dauphin) Stickley; two sons, Cam Stickley and wife Dennise, of Pasadena and Craig Stickley and wife Debbie, of Sylacauga, Ala.; three daughters, Nancy Bushby and husband Eric, of Laurel, Kaye McTighe and husband Shaun, of Occoquan, Va. and Amy Hendershot and husband Jack, of LaVale; he was “Pops” or “Poppy” to eight grandchildren, Andrea Coulson, Lisa Harrington, Julie Perretta, Kerrie Stickley, Melissa Carmichael, Jamie Nguyen, Emily and Jackson Hendershot and was blessed with five great-grandchildren, Corey Coulson, Samantha Harrington, Sam and Abigail Perretta and Christopher Carmichael.

Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland,  (www.AdamsFamilyFuneralHome.com) on Monday, Oct. 28, 2013, from 4 to 6 p.m.

A funeral service will be conducted in the Trinity Lutheran Church on Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2013, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Eric Ruble officiating. Friends will also be received at the church one hour prior to the service.

Interment will be in the Maryland Veterans’ Cemetery at Rocky Gap.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in his name to Trinity Lutheran Church, 326 N. Centre St., Cumberland, MD 21502.
