— WESTERNPORT — Frederick L. Proffitt 86, of Westernport, died at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center on Saturday, Nov. 9, 2013.

He was born on Aug. 31, 1927 in Crawfordville, Ind., and was the son of the late Asher Proffitt and M. Eula ( Leyenberger) Proffitt. He was preceded in death by his wife, Velma (Phillips) Proffitt who died on Nov 15, 2010; and one brother, James W. Proffitt.

Fred was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Piedmont, W.Va. He was a graduate of Greencastle High School in Indiana and attended DePauw University and was a graduate of Indiana College of Mortuary Science. He was associated with the Proffitt and Sons Funeral Home in Greencastle, Ind. in his earlier career. He also worked for RR Donnally in Indiana. He worked for Westvaco Corp in Luke, from 1967 until his retirement in 1993 as a Section Leader in Quality Control.

Fred was well known for his woodworking, especially his ducks.

Fred is survived by his son, Allen L. Proffitt of Dallas, Texas; and his two daughters, Diane K. Snyder and husband Mark and Cynthia Shumaker and husband Don of Westernport. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Kristie Snyder, Carlee McNeal, Michael Shumaker and Courtney Morton; and six great-grandchildren.

In accordance with his wishes Fred was cremated and a memorial service will be held at the Fredlock Funeral Home in Piedmont on Thursday, Nov. 14, 2013 at 7 p.m. with the Rev Steve Grimes officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 3 to 4 and 5 to 7 p.m.

Inurnment will be at Potomac Memorial Gardens in Keyser, W.Va.
