MAYSVILLE, W.Va. — Vernon Leo “Tally” Weasonforth, 71, of Jordan Run Road, Maysville, passed away Friday, Dec. 20, 2013 at his home.
He was born July 1, 1942 in Scherr, W.Va., and was a son of the late Bunker LeMoyne Weasonforth and Merle (Brown) Weasonforth.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Tammy Weasonforth; three brothers, Charles “Pete” Weasonforth, Boyd Weasonforth, Raymond Weasonforth; and two sisters, Opal and Maxine Weasonforth.
Mr. Weasonforth was a retired coal miner. He was a member of Potomac Valley Baptist Church, Maysville.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Sherri L. (McKenzie) Weasonforth; five sons, William Weasonforth, Michael Weasonforth and Mary, Randy Weasonforth all of Keyser, W.Va., Terry Weasonforth of Romney, W.Va. and Scott Weasonforth and Elaine of Scherr; two daughters, Yvette and Frank Whetzel of Dorcas, W.Va. and Tracey Weasonforth of Petersburg, W.Va.; 12 grandchildren including Jackie Berg and Rayth Donovan whom he helped raised; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Lake Weasonforth and Betty of Ashland, Ky.; and two sisters, Mary Hines of Keyser and Jean Sites and Earl of Cabins, W.Va.
Funeral service will be Monday, Dec. 23, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Potomac Valley Baptist Church with Pastor Ted Anderson officiating.
Family will receive friends Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg.
Interment will follow in the Scherr-Idleman Cemetery at Scherr.
