Ruth E. Nair [Cumberland]

CUMBERLAND — Ruth Elizabeth Nair, 82, of Cumberland, passed away Sunday, May 1, 2011, at the Western Maryland Health System Regional Medical Center.

Born Jan. 24, 1929, in Terra Alta, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Lewis Lee and Mable (Heath) Stewart. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Roy Elmer Nair; one son, Terry Nair; one grandson, Richard Allen Nair Jr.; five sisters, Betty Nair, Mary Goss, Geraldine Baker, Margaret Stewart and Pauline Stewart; four brothers, Chester Stewart, Albert Stewart, Donald Stewart and Paul Stewart, and special friend, Roger Leo Sites.

Mrs. Nair was a homemaker and a member of the Oldtown V.F.W. She enjoyed fishing, playing tip jars and in her younger years playing bingo. Ruth also enjoyed playing Maryland scratch off tickets.

Surviving are four sons, Richard Nair and wife Edith, of Cumberland, Frank Nair, of Oldtown, Charlie Nair and wife Nancy, of Hagerstown and David Nair and special friend Deborah Barb, of Rawlings; one brother, Joseph Stewart, of Philadelphia, Pa.; grandchildren, Juanita Nair and special friend Shane, Clayton Nair, Danny Nair, Vincent Nair, Cassie Nair, Amanda Nair McGruder, Matthew Nair, Dustin Patterson, Shelly Nair, Kelsey Nair, David Nair Jr. Melissa Nair, Michael Nair and Jenny Ott; numerous great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, ( on Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted in the funeral home on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Stevie Leydig of Hyndman Ministries Center officiating.

Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
