CHARLES R. “CHUCK” BLAHUT [La Vale]

LAVALE — Charles R. “Chuck” Blahut, 80, of Lavale, formerly of Oldtown, passed away October 27, 2012 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Mr. Blahut was born February 21, 1932 in Baltimore, the son of the late Charles James and Angeline (Peremski) Blahut. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Lillian Kutcher and Helen Sands; and one brother, Robert Blahut.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Marguerite Anne (Robison) Blahut; two sons, Richard J. Blahut, his wife Joy of Artemas, Pa. and David C. Blahut and his wife Karen of Oldtown; two daughters, Jeanette M. Robertson and husband Dale of Cumberland and Mary Corbett and husband Andy of Green Spring W.Va. He is also survived by one sister, Ruth Sterling and her husband Bud; grandchildren, David Blahut II, Christopher Swick, Miranda Kennally, Daniel Robertson, Andrew Swick, Bryan Robertson, Matthew Davis, Leah Corbett, John Corbett, Brandon Blahut, Tessa Davis and Matthew Corbett; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Blahut was a Army veteran during the Korean Conflict and had numerous occupations including a Baltimore City Fireman, newspaper carrier, maintenance manager for St. Margarets Parish in Bel Air and he owned several service stations in Harford County. Mr. Blahut moved to the area in 1972 to farm in Artemas. In 1977 he became the owner of The Oldtown General Store and operated it until its closing in 2004.  He was a proud supporter of the Oldtown community, a member of the Oldtown Clifford B. Sisler VFW Post and a Charter Member of the Oldtown Lions Club. He enjoyed the outdoors and in his later years enjoyed helping trees and plants to grow on his farmland in Artemas. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and donated his time cleaning the church and helping out with dinners and events.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Cumberland, on Nov. 3, 2012 at 11 a.m.  A gathering for family and friends will follow the Mass in the St Mary’s Church Hall.

His body was donated to the Anatomy Board at his request and private internment will be at a later date.

In lieu of flowers the family request a donation to the WMHS Hospice Service.

Scarpelli Funeral Home P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, is assisting the family.
