— CRESAPTOWN — Margaret

A. Anderson, 84, of Cresaptown,

passed away Thursday,

Jan. 16, 2014, at Western

Maryland Regional Medical

Center, surrounded by her


Born in Cumberland, on

July 12, 1929, she was the

daughter of the late Toni Lee

Shaffer and Elsia M. Lewis

Shaffer. In addition to her parents,

Margaret was preceded

in death by her husband,

William Edward Anderson.

Margaret worked as a dietician

at Sacred Heart Hospital

and retired from Memorial

Hospital Dietary Department.

She was a member of Cresaptown

United Methodist

Church and was a very active

member of the Fraternal

Order of Eagles. She served

as Regional President, State

Auxiliary President and was a

four-time President of her

local Auxiliary 2883 of Cresaptown.

For 40 years, she coordinated

dinners in the Aerie

Home for the Auxiliary. Mrs.

Anderson was also a member

of the Cumberland Order of

the Eastern Star 56, and Calan

the Temple 3 Pythian Sisters.

Margie was an avid reader

and she enjoyed bingo. She

bowled in two leagues, the

AARP and Women’s Classic

Bowling League. Friends and

family relied on Margie for

cooking for their special


She is survived by her son,

John F. Rowe Jr. and wife

Susan, Murrells Inlet, S.C.;

daughters, Luanne Wiechert

and husband Dave, Bedford,

Pa., Terrie Lease and partner

Cathy Wolford, Bowling Green,

Mary Beth Weber and husband

Steve, Berkeley Springs,

and step-daughter, Cynthia S.

Griffin and husband Dennis,

Surfside, S.C.; grandchildren,

John F. Rowe III, Victor C.

Lease, Tyler Emerick, Paige

Ann Weber and step-grandson,

Matthew Anderson;

great-grandchildren, Jensen

Lease, Jeremy Lease, John F.

Rowe IV and Zachery Rowe;

sisters, O. Virginia Kash, Melbourne,

Fla., Dora J.

Buchanan and husband

William, Cumberland, Hilda

M. Resh, Cumberland and sister-

in-law, Margaret M. Ware,

Cumberland; brothers,

William L. Shaffer and wife

Carlotta, James E. Shaffer and

wife Barbara, Glen O. Shaffer

and wife Sheila, all of Cumberland.

Margie also enjoyed the

love of many nieces and

Hafer Funeral Service, P.A. —

Chapel of the Hills, 1302

National Highway, LaVale, on

Sunday, Jan. 19, 2014 from 2 to

4 and 7 to 9 p.m. The Fraternal

Order of Eagles 2883 of Cresaptown

will hold a memorial

service on Sunday at 7 p.m.

Funeral services will be held

at the funeral home on Monday,

Jan. 20, 2014 at 11 a.m.

with the Rev. Harold McClay

and the Rev. Hal Atkins officiating.

Interment will follow at

Restlawn Memorial Gardens.

Pall bearers are grandsons,

Victor Lease, Tyler Emerick

and J. Fred Rowe III; and

nephews, William Buchanan

Jr., Douglas Resh and James

Shaffer Jr..
