DORIS L. (ROBINSON) EYLER [Naples, Fla.]

NAPLES, Fla. — Doris Leota (Robinson) Eyler, 96, died Sunday, Jan. 19, 2014 in Naples.

Born in Wenona, Ill. to Milton and Della Wells Robinson, Doris attended public schools in Wenona and then earned a B.A. degree in business administration from Monmouth College, Monmouth, Ill. in 1941.  She attended Brown’s Business College in St. Louis to obtain practical secretarial training. In 1943 Doris married Robert W. Eyler, a Ph.D. chemist she had met at Monmouth College, and they moved to Wilmington, Del. where he began his career as an industrial chemist. Doris was a caring and devoted wife, mother and homemaker for the years that followed as the couple and their growing family lived in Hopewell, Va., Cumberland, and subsequently returned to Wilmington, where she was employed as a paraprofessional in the Business Department at Concord High School for a number of years. Prior to retirement, the Eylers spent several years in Belgium and Great Britain.

In 1983, Doris retired with her husband to Marco Island, Fla., and then in 1996 moved to Bentley Village in Naples. Throughout her life, and especially in retirement, Doris’ generosity of her time and energies led her to volunteer in many civic and church activities, serving as volunteer coordinator for some of them, such as the Bargain Basket resale shop of the United Church of Marco Island. Always an active and outgoing person, she continued to play golf well into her nineties and served as secretary of the Bentley Village women’s golf association. She played bridge four times a week until a few months before her death.

Doris was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Robert; and her brother, Donald Robinson.

She is survived by three sons, John Robert (Fonda) of Gainesville, Fla., Richard Robinson (Barbara) of Centennial, Colo., and James Wilson (Kel-Ann) of Forsyth, Ga.; a daughter, Mary Etta King (Robert) of Lexington, Mass.; a niece, Donna Robinson of Varna, Ill.; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, all of whom she cherished greatly.

A memorial service honoring Doris’ life will be held at the Care Center, Vi at Bentley Village, 875 Retreat Drive, Naples, on Saturday, Feb. 1, 2014 at 4 p.m. with the Rev. Dr. Douglas G. Pratt, First Presbyterian Church of Bonita Springs, officiating.

Memorial donations may be made to the Eyler Family Scholarship Fund of Monmouth College, 700 East Broadway, Monmouth, IL 61462-1998.
