HAZEL V. ZEMBOWER [Bedford]

BEDFORD, Pa. — Hazel Virginia (Growden) Zembower, 82, of Bedford, Pa., died on Saturday, July 2, 2011, at the home of her daughter, Jeanne, of Moorefield, W.Va.
Born Aug. 20, 1928, in Allegany County, Mrs. Zembower was the daughter of the late James Roy Growden and Ruth Lenore (Leasure) Growden-Hart and the stepdaughter of the late Herbert Dyke Hart. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Alvin G. Zembower; a son, Gary Zembower; a daughter, Ellen Sue; an infant son; and a brother, Francis Growden. She was raised by her beloved grandparents, Ira B. Leasure and Susan (Anderson) Leasure.
In addition to raising her large family, Hazel was a charter member of the Cumberland Valley Volunteer Fire Company 45 and ran with the Bedford Area Ambulance Association. She was an Emergency Medical Technician/First Responder working with Cumberland Valley EMS Unit 25 for 28 years and also a member of the Bedford County Posse. Hazel was a member of the Centenary United Methodist Church but attended the Centreville United Methodist Church.
Hazel is survived by her daughters, Linda Garland and her husband Steve, of Newville, Pa., Cynthia Zembower-Fouts and her companion Lynford Yokum, of Centreville, Pa., Carol Koontz and her husband James, of Duncansville, Pa., S. Jeanne Riggleman and her husband Monte, of Moorefield, W.Va., Connie Miller and her husband Keith, of Fisher, W.Va., and Kim Fields and her husband Mike, of Cumberland; and her sons, Thomas Zembower and his wife Tammy, of Fishertown, Pa., and Troy Zembower and his girlfriend Lisa Thomas, of Cumberland. She is also survived by her sister, Phyllis Growden Brown Miller, of Naples, Fla.; 20 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and good friends.
Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, (www.AdamsFamilyFuneralHome.com) on Tuesday, July 5, 2011, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
A funeral service will be conducted in the funeral home on Wednesday, July 6, 2011, at noon with Pastor Lewis Twigg officiating.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
