Howard V. Hansell Sr. [Cumberland]

— CUMBERLAND — Howard V. Hansell Sr., 86, of Cumberland, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 21, 2010, at his home.

Born Feb. 29, 1924, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Paul G. Hansell and Maude Mae (Ensley) Hansell. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Lou (Parsons) Hansell; a sister, Alverta Davy; two brothers, James E. and Paul L. Hansell.

Mr. Hansell was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a 1942 graduate of Fort Hill High School and was a Christian who attended St. John’s Lutheran Church. He was a retired engineer from CSXT Corp. and had formerly worked at the Western Maryland Railroad.

He is survived by his wife, Sandy K. (Tabler) Hansell; three children, Susan M. Hansell-Davis and husband Michael, Springfield, W.Va., Howard V. Hansell Jr. and wife Lynne Brodell-Hansell, LaVale, Krista D. Walker and husband Roger, Wiley Ford, W.Va.; four grandchildren, Andrew, Nicholas, David and Rachel; a sister, Louise Hansell, Cumberland; and niece, Dolores Davy, Bel Air, Cumberland.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, ( on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Diane Smith officiating.

Interment will be in Davis Memorial Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Roger Walker, Charlie Boone, David Levine, Damon Thomas, Vaughn Tabler and Shawn Tabler.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to WMHS Hospice, 1050 W. Industrial Blvd., Suite 19, Cumberland, MD 21502.
