PAW PAW, W.Va. — M. Joseph Shambaugh, 68, passed away peacefully at his residence on Bethel Road, Paw Paw, on Thursday, June 28, 2012 after a brief illness.

He was born April 4, 1944 in Magnolia, W.Va., (Morgan County) and was the son of the late Marion Ike and Essie (Brown) Shambaugh.

He was retired from CSX Railroad Corporation after 34 years of service. Joe was a member of the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church of Orleans Crossroads, W.Va., where he was a trustee and children’s Sunday School teacher as well as a teacher of the Paw Paw United Methodist Disciple Club. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way; a member of N.A.R.V.E. Units 022 and 103; a member of the Morgan County Hunting Club; a member of the Jr. OURAM Council 117 of Berkeley Springs and a member of the Paw Paw Lions Club.

Joe is survived by his wife, Donna (Appold) Shambaugh, whom he married in Hagerstown, on Sep. 4, 1962.

Also surviving are two sons, Joe Shambaugh Jr. and wife, Carol of Oldtown and    Darren Shambaugh of Paw Paw; one daughter, Lisa (Shambaugh) Hardt and husband, Rob of Paw Paw; his “rascals”, his grandchildren,    Heather (Shambaugh) Preston and husband, Joshua of Oldtown,    Nathan Shambaugh of Oldtown,    Tyler Ben Hardt, AReEtta Shambaugh, Jesse Hardt and Michael Shambaugh, all of Paw Paw; a great-grandchild, Gavin Tyler Preston of Oldtown; his brothers, Luther (Jock) Shambaugh and wife, Dottie of Paw Paw, Dean Shambaugh of Magnolia; two sisters,    Debbie and Sue Shambaugh of Magnolia; a special aunt-in-law,    “Della” Junie Morgan of Cumberland; a special nephew and close hunting friend, Ron Brown of Slanesville, W.Va.; also many nieces, nephews and children from the community who fondly knew him as “Pappy-Joe”.

He was preceded in death by one son, Kevin Shambaugh; and one brother, Floyd “Cook” Shambaugh.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, June 30, 2012 at the Kimble Funeral Home, 188 Moser Ave., Paw Paw.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 1, 2012 at Lighthouse Assembly of God Church with Richard Vooharr officiating. The family will receive friends at the church one-half hour prior to the service.

Interment will be at Camp Hill Cemetery at Paw Paw.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church at Orleans Crossroads, W.Va. or Hospice of the Panhandle, 122 Waverly Court, Martinsburg, WV 25403.
