CUMBERLAND — Sandra Sarvida Tan, 53, of Cumberland, passed away on Tuesday, March 19, 2013, at home.
Born Sept. 16, 1959, in Cebu City, Philippines, she was the daughter of the late Luz (Liao) Sarvida and Gonzalo Sarvida Sr. and was raised by Lourdes Sarvida, stepmother.
Mrs. Tan received her BSN at Cebu Velez School of Nursing, was a nurse in her husband’s medical office and was a homemaker. She was a member of Our Lady of the Mountains Parish and the Maryland Nurses Association.
She is survived by her husband, Jesus H. Tan, M.D.; two sons, Joshua Tan, of Cumberland and stepson, Jeremias Tan and wife Hanita Oh-Tan, of Fairfax, Va. and two stepdaughters, Ethel Ruth Masten and husband Stephen, of Sterling, Va. and Emma Ruth Tan and Gaston Chan, of Washington, D.C. She is also survived by three sisters, Gloria Soco and husband Robin, of Cebu, Suzette Layog and husband Marcilino, of Cebu and Suzanne Drobek and husband Patrick, of Detroit, Mich; five brothers, Gonzalo Sarvida Jr. and wife Lorna, of Cebu, Tommy Sarvida and wife June, of Cebu, Joseph Sarvida and wife Allison, of Cebu, Richard Sarvida and wife Amor and Mark Sarvida and friend Rachel, of Cebu; five grandchildren, Olivia Tan, Zachary Tan, Jacob Masten, Payton Masten and Kennedy Masten and a cousin, Leonie Tan and friend Kathy Winebrenner, of Frostburg. She is also beloved by many cousins, nieces, and nephews, friends and co-workers.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., Cresaptown (www.scar-pellifh.com) on Sunday, March 24, 2013, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Christian Wake service will be held at 7 p.m. with Father Greg Chervanek, O.F.M., Cap. officiating.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church on Monday, March 25, 2013, at 10 a.m. with Father Greg Chervanek, O.F.M., Cap. as celebrant.
Interment will be in Saint Mary’s Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association.
