— CUMBERLAND — Ernest James Twigg, 88, of Cumberland, passed away on Tuesday, March 26, 2013, at the Winchester Medical Center.

Born Sept. 20, 1924, in Danville, Va., Mr. Twigg was the son of the late Sherman Cecil Twigg Sr. and Cora Bernice (Worsham) Twigg. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Myra R. Twigg, Jan. 1, 2000; a son, Donald R. Twigg; three brothers, Carl Edward Twigg, Sherman Twigg, and Allison R. Twigg; and a sister, Mary Lou Emerson.

A graduate of Fort Hill High School, Jim was a United States Army/Air Corps veteran during World War II. He retired from Cumberland Welding and Supply Company where he co-owned it with his brothers. Jim was a member of the Ali Ghan Shrine Club, the Motor Corps Division, and the Camper Club at the Ali Ghan Shrine Club. He was also a member of the Queen City Lodge 131. Jim was a Boy Scout leader for many years and enjoyed square dancing.  

Jim is survived by his children, Wayne Twigg and wife, Dianne, Daniel I. Twigg and wife, Cathy, all of Martinsburg, W.Va., Patrick A. Twigg, Berkeley Springs, W.Va., Carol J. Burns and husband, John, Bluemont, Va., Ronald D. Twigg and wife, Caroline, Keedysville, Holly A. Purdy and husband, Scott, Gettysburg, Pa., and M. Andrew “Andy” Twigg and wife, Barbara, Keedysville. He is also survived by his sisters, Emma Jean Cessna, Cumberland, and Shirley Cain of Florida; as well as 16 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland,  (www.AdamsFamilyFuneralHome.com) on Friday, March 29, 2013 from 4 to 6 p.m.

A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday, March 30, 2013 at 10 a.m. with Pastor Karen M. Adams officiating.

Interment will be in SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be the grandsons.

Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by the Post 13 Veterans Honor Guard.
