CUMBERLAND — Murten William Robey Sr., 93, of Cumberland, passed away Saturday, April 19, 2014, at his home.
Born Jan. 29, 1921, in Cumberland, Mr. Robey was the son of the late John Henry Robey and Elsie L. (Conrad) Robey. He was also preceded in death by four sisters, Myrtle Nicewarner, Mildred Schuffert, Mabel Lafferty and Grace “Polly” Galliher; and her brothers, John H. Robey, Jr. and Harry P. Robey.
A veteran of World War II having served in the United States Army Air Force, Murten retired from the Chessie System with 27 years of service. He was a member of the Local 656 United Carmen’s Union Chessie System. He was also a former employee of the Celanese and ABL. He was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness-Cumberland Congregation and also a member of the Fort Ashby VFW.
Murten is survived by his wife of 67 years, Rosalie A. (Grabenstein) Robey; his sons, Murten William Robey, Jr., and wife, Debra, Fort Ashby, W.Va., and Barry Hartley and wife Jean, England; and his daughter, Carol Jean Allen, Cumberland. Murten is also survived by his brothers, John H. Robey; Lee T. Robey, Otto “Bud” Robey, all of Cumberland, and Walton Robey, Fla.; his grandchildren, Aub-rey, Carisa, Shanna Grady and husband Brandon, Kira and Christina Allen; his great-grandchildren, Abigayle, Felicity, Bryson and Ashton
Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, (www.AdamsFamilyFuneralHome.com) on Friday, April 25, 2014, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday, April 26, 2014, at 11 a.m., with Robert Merkel presiding.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by the Post 13 Veterans Honor Guard.
