— CUMBERLAND — Edwin Allen Thorpe, 83, of Cumberland, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, July 23, 2013, at Devlin Manor Health Care Center.

Born Jan. 22, 1930, in Keyser, W.Va., Mr. Thorpe was the son of the late Utelka “Peggy” Emma (Willhide) Thorpe. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Carole Kay Thorpe, on March 9, 2013; a daughter, Michelle Schaidt; two sisters, Betty Lou Spaur and Shirley Weaver; a brother, William E. Thorpe; three grandchildren, Wendy Flanagan, James Allen Flanagan and James Ray Flanagan and was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Allen retired from CSX Railroad and was a member of Holy Cross-Saint Philips Episcopal Church. He was also a member of the Potomac Lodge 100 A.F.&A.M., the Ali Ghan Shrine Band and served in the Army National Guard. Allen enjoyed fishing, gambling, watching baseball and attending games.

Allen is survived by his daughter, Karen K. Smith and husband Farnia, of Ridgeley, W.Va.; his grandchildren, Nicole Schaidt and boyfriend Jake Ryan and Luke Harrison and girlfriend Chaundra Andrews, both of Ridgeley, W.Va.; his great-grandchildren, Cainan Grapes, Rodney Ryan, Irelynn Ryan and Bradley Harrison; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland,  (www.AdamsFamilyFuneralHome.com) on Friday, July 26, 2013, from 6 to 8 p.m. The Potomac Lodge 100 A.F.&A.M. will conduct a service at 6:16 p.m.

A funeral service will be conducted in funeral home on Saturday, July 27, 2013, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Theresa Brion officiating.

Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
