CUMBERLAND — John J. DeJoice Sr., 70, of Cumberland, and formerly of Dickerson, passed away on July 25, 2013 at Devlin Manor, Cumberland, with his wife at his side.
Born on Oct. 22, 1942, he was the son of the late Joseph and Philomena (Leoni) DeJoice.
John was a Systems Engineer for L.A. Systems, Alexandria, Va. He also served in the U.S. Army and was a graduate of St. Joseph’s High School, Renovo, Pa. He was a member of Our Lady of the Mountains Parish.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Elizabeth “Betty” (McGlone) DeJoice; daughter, Mary Jo DeJoice of Elkins, W.Va.; and son, John J. DeJoice Jr. and wife Rhonda of Cumberland; and grandsons, J. Joseph DeJoice III and Collin DeJoice, both the light of his life; sister, Helen DeJoice Fortson, San Diego, Calif.; and Julianne Thorson, aunt and Clifford Thorson, uncle, Renovo.
John’s gentle, kind and loving spirit will be dearly missed by his family. John loved nature and the outdoors and had a real joy for cooking and collecting mushrooms. He was happiest when spending time with his family.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, (www.scarpellifh.com) on Saturday, July 27, 2013 from 3 to 7 p.m. with a Christian wake at 6 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Saint Joseph Catholic Church, 925 Huron Ave., Renovo, with the Rev. Charles C. Ugo as celebrant.
