EMIL J. “MIMI” DIUBALDO [Keyser, W.Va.]

KEYSER, W.Va. — Emil J. “Mimi” DiUbaldo, 92, of Keyser, died on Monday, Jan. 28, 2013 at Western Maryland Regional Medical Center, Cumberland.

Born on May 5, 1920 in Piedmont, W.Va., he was a son of the late Andrew and Teresa (DiSabatino) DiUbaldo, the fifth of eight children. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife Mary C. (Patterson) DiUbaldo; brothers, Arone “Roni” DiUbaldo and wife Pansy, John DiUbaldo, Tony “Buff” DiUbaldo, Andrew DiUbaldo; a sister, Caroline Chiccehitto and husband Louis; and a brother-in-law, Dr. Don Smith.

Emil was raised in Luke, a 1940 graduate of Bruce High School and owner of DiUbaldo Trucking Company and co-owner of D&H Warehouse. Mimi was a member of the Church of the Assumption of Keyser and St. Peters Church in Westernport, where he worked many years on the Cemetery Committee. He was also a member of Boyce Houser Post 41, American Legion, VFW Post 6775, Queens Point, Loyal Order of Moose 662, Tri-Town’s Lions Club where he devoted many years to the Club’s annual citrus sale.

Mimi was an Army veteran, awarded the Silver Star, the Purple Heart and many other commendations for his heroic service and deeds during World War II as a sergeant in the 308th Engineer Battalion. But more importantly, Mimi was a hero to his family.

Grandma and Mimi’s house was always a place where family wanted to be. Laughter, love and generosity always abounded.  His zest for life included love of golf, going to the horse races and playing cards with his friends. He will be deeply missed by loved ones and friends, but never forgotten. The world lost quite a character, and heaven got a very special angel.

Surviving are his two daughters, Diane M. Stevenson and husband “Skip” of Massillon, Ohio and Joann T. Haywood and Mike Haywood of Keyser; grandchildren, Tammy (Haywood) Levy and husband Dodd of Woodbridge, Va., Keith Stevenson of Los Angeles, Calif., Chad Haywood of Keyser, Andrew “AJ” Stevenson and wife Beth of Keyser, Kimberly (Haywood) Miller and husband Ernie of Keyser, Adam Stevenson and wife Mackenzie of Redondo Beach, Calif., Autumn Haywood of Keyser and Mia (Stevenson) Lautt and husband Craig of Alco, N.J.; and his great-grandchildren, Dante and Lola Stevenson, Jordon and Connor Levy, Cruz Haywood, Olivia Lautt, Logan and Anthony DeHaven and Kaia Stevenson. He is also survived by his sisters, Virginia Smith of Naples, Fla. and Theresa Ross and husband Taylor of Columbus, Ind.; a very special friend and companion, Mary Lee of Keyser; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Markwood Funeral Home, Keyser, on Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Peters Church, Westernport at 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 1, 2013 with Father Eric Gauchat as celebrant.

Interment will follow in St. Peters Cemetery, Westernport, where military honors will be accorded.
