ALVIN A. SHUMAKER JR. [Granstville]

— GRANTSVILLE — Alvin Andrew Shumaker Jr., 76, of Grantsville, died Sunday, July 13, 2014, at his residence.

Born July 6, 1938, in Somerset, Pa., he was the son of the late Alvin and Etta Mae (Ritenour) Shumaker Sr. He was also preceded in death by his step-mother, May (Brenneman) Shumaker; four brothers, Odie, Clyde, David and Gene Shumaker; and one sister, Helen Satcho.

Mr. Shumaker was an instructor for the Diesel Institute and was also a bus contractor for the Garrett County Board of Education. He was a member of Oak Grove Mennonite Church, the Pennsylvania National Guard and was a driver for the Northern Garrett County Rescue Squad.

He is survived by three brothers, Abraham Shumaker, Somerset, Pa.; Robert Shumaker, Grantsville; Harold Shumaker, Saluda, N.C.; one sister, Betty Baer, Somerset; and one half-sister, Bonnie Miller, Grantsville.

Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 179 Miller St., Grantsville, on Tuesday, July 15, 2014, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted in the funeral home on Wednesday, July 16, 2014, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Melvin Cochran officiating.

Interment will be in Bittinger Cemetery.

Expressions of sympathy may be directed to the Northern Garrett County Rescue Squad.
