DAWN JEFFRIES [Williamsport]

— WILLIAMSPORT — Dawn Jeffries, 89, formerly of Cedar Point Road, New Creek, W.Va., died Friday, July 11, 2014, at the Homewood Nursing Home in Williamsport.

Born on Feb. 16, 1925, at Keyser, W.Va., she was a daughter of the late Karl H. and Ruth M. (Welch) Siever. She also was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, William A. Jeffries, on April 15, 2010; two sisters, Sally A. Thayer and Mary Louise Lovett; and a brother, Charles H. “Buck” Siever.

Mrs. Jeffries retired as a secretary with the Mineral County Board of Education at the Vo-Tech Center with 18 years of service. She was instrumental in developing and starting the kindergarten program in Mineral County in 1960 at the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Keyser. She was also very much a part of the effort to form the Keyser Little Theater Group in the 1960’s and 70’s and the Queen’s-Meadow Cemetery Association among other numerous activities in Keyser throughout her life. She was a member of the Keyser Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are one son, Kam Jeffries and wife, Karen, of Fort Ashby, W.Va.; one daughter, Jill Graves and her partner, Dave Jarrell, of Bunker Hill, W.Va.; her grandson, Ian Jeffries, of Seattle, Wash.; Karen’s children, Lori and Blaine Deremer; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser Chapel, on Thursday, July 17, 2014, from 2 to 4 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser, immediately following the visitation at 4 p.m. with the Rev. Karen J. Long officiating.

Interment will be in Potomac Memorial Gardens, Keyser.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Michigan Avenue, Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601-1246 or to the Hospice of Washington County, Inc., 747 Northern Avenue, Hagerstown, MD 21742.
