GEORGE L. DIXON [Cumberland]

CUMBERLAND — George L. Dixon, 79, of Cumberland, passed away on Monday June 23, 2014, at the Allegany Health Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Born on Sept. 27, 1934, in Altoona, Pa., he was the son of the late George L. Dixon Sr. and Carrie (Hollingshead) Dixon. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Jean Marie Dixon in 2011; and his brother, David Dixon.

George was a United States Army veteran. He was a member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church where he held the positions of Usher, Choir Member, and in the Men’s Group. George was a retired stock coordinator at the Kelly Springfield Tire Company. He was an avid and passionate bowler and bowled on the Tuesday and Thursday night leagues at The Bowler. Above all, George loved his family and especially his grandchildren.

Surviving are his three daughters, Debbie Nee and husband David of Surry Va., Brenda Ritchie of Poolesville, Wendy Sisler of Cumberland; one son, Daniel Dixon and wife Margie of LaVale; one sister, Nancy Wise; nine grandchildren, Andy Nee and wife Galina, Chris Nee, Jacob Ritchie, Tyler Dixon, Sarah and Justin Thomas, Josh Bittner, Kaitlyn and Emily Sisler; one great-granddaughter, Isabella Nee.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home P.A. (www.scarpellifh.com) 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Thursday, June 26, 2014, from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.

A funeral service will be conducted at Saint Luke’s Lutheran Church, Frederick Street, Cumberland, on Friday, June 27, 2014, at 11 a.m. with Pastor David Wright officiating. Friends will be received at the church one hour prior to the funeral.

Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
