CUMBERLAND — Kenneth Ray Messmer, 60, of Cumberland, died Wednesday, July 3, 2013, at home. He had suffered with chronic pain since 1996.
Born Sept. 6, 1952, in Cumberland, he was the son of Bertie (Iser) Stotler, of Cumberland and the late Kenneth W. Messmer. He was also preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Sylvester and Grace Iser and his paternal grandparents, Raymond G. and Ellen Messmer.
Kenneth was a graduate of Allegany High School and had attended Allegany Community College.He had various work positions in the area.
Kenny belonged to New Covenant United Methodist Church, the Cumberland Democrat Club, and The Good Fellowship Club.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his twin brother, Edward W. Messmer, of Cumberland; a nephew, Eric W. Messmer and wife Amy; a great-nephew, Conner Messmer; a great-niece, Payton Messmer, all of St. Augustine, Fla.; loving aunts, uncles, cousins and many special friends, including Tonya Markwood.
As per his request, Kenneth will be cremated.
A memorial service will be conducted in the Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., 202 Greene St., Cumberland, on Saturday, July 6, 2013, at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Dr. Chris Gobrecht officiating. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m.

The family would like to thank the doctors and staff of the former Memorial Hospital and Sacred Heart Hospital, as well as the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center for their support, caring, and comfort through the past 17 years. In addition, they extend heartfelt appreciation to the WMHS Hospice members.
