CUMBERLAND — Dorothy “Dottie” Elaine Mowery, 85, of Cumberland, passed away on Monday, July 8, 2013, at the Lions Center for Rehabilitation and Extended Care.

Born Sept. 2, 1927, in Ridgeley, W.Va., Mrs. Mowery was the daughter of the late James Charles Arrington and Alda (Channel) Arrington. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Robert “Bob” Kenneth Mowery Sr., Feb. 1, 2012; as well as numerous brothers, a sister, and was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

A graduate of Ridgeley High School, Dottie was a homemaker and a member of the Second Baptist Church where she worked in the nursery and served on the Kitchen Committee. Dottie loved her family, games, and bingo. She also enjoyed spending time at the family camp on the South Branch River.

Dottie is survived by her son, Robert K. Mowery Jr. and wife, Stephanie, Crofton; and her daughter, Sheila Dillon and husband, Sherrill, Cumberland. Dottie’s second greatest loves were her grandchildren, Shawn Mowery, Troy Mowery and wife, Jen, Todd Mowery and wife, Tina, Rebekah Bangh and husband, Mike, Nathan Dillon and wife, Beth, Rachel Adefolaju and husband, Lanre, Hannah Dillon and boyfriend, John, and Melissa Baker; and her great-grandchildren, Tre Flagg, Ethan Painter, Eva, Nick, Ryan and Grace Mowery, and two special little ones, Emmett Bangh and Everly Dillon, born the day of her great-grandmother’s death.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, July 14, 2013 at 1 p.m. at the Second Baptist Church, with the Rev. Sherrill Dillon officiating.  

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Dottie’s name to the Second Baptist Church, One Grand Ave., Cumberland, MD 21505, for the Kitchen Committee.
