CHARLES N. HANEKAMP JR. [Cumberland]

CUMBERLAND — Charles Norman Hanekamp Jr., 55, of Cumberland, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2013, at the Lions Center for Rehabilitation and Extended Care.

Born Oct. 9, 1958, in Cumberland, Mr. Hanekamp was the son of Loretta Irene (Petenbrink) Hanekamp, Cumberland, and the late Charles Norman Hanekamp Sr. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Rayanna Hanekamp; his maternal grandparents, Samuel and Ella (Conner) Petenbrink; his paternal grandparents, William and Elsie (Humphrey) Hanekamp; his special cousin, Kevin Piper; and other family and friends.

Charles had recently retired from the downtown Cumberland Branch of M&T Bank with over 20 years of service. His immediate supervisor and good friend was Brenda Aldridge. He was a member of the Zion Independent Church. Charles was also active in the Potomac Council Boy Scout Troop 89 under the leadership of Jon Schadt, Doug Schwab, Brent Chippendale, and Billy Eady. He was an Eagle Scout with a few palms. Charles and the other scouts in the troop were active in many service projects, earning badges, doing fundraisers, camp activities and numerous outings. He was a client of Friends Aware Industries working for and with many wonderful friends and staff members. He also was involved with the Friends Social Committee. Charles was involved in the Special Olympics at both the county and state levels. He was on the Special Olympics Tuesday afternoon bowling league at The bowler and participated in many other events such as the Hooley Plunge, the Train Pull, and the Outdoor Club Fishing Rodeo.  harles has many medals, ribbons, certificates, and trophies to show for his accomplishments.

Besides his mother, Charles is survived by his brother-in-law, Donald Fischer and children; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Charles will be greatly missed by all those who loved him.

Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland,  (www.AdamsFamilyFuneralHome.com) on Friday, Dec. 13, 2013 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday, Dec. 13, 2013 at 1 p.m.

Interment will be in Greenmount Cemetery.
