DORIS L. BROOKE [Berryville, Va.]

BERRYVILLE, Va. — Doris Lee Brooke, 83, of Berryville, passed away on February 10, 2014. She had bravely and courageously battled lung cancer for over 3 years, outliving her doctors expectations.

Doris was loved by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. She was known by all to be a loving, kind, and generous woman.  Doris was born and raised in Wiley Ford, West Virginia. At 18 she went to Washington, D.C. to find a job with the federal government.  She worked at Quantico with the Marines, at the Office of Personnel Management and ultimately retired from N.A.S.A. Doris attended the launching of the first space shuttle, having worked tirelessly on the budget for the entire space shuttle program.

Doris loved working outside with her flowers and garden. She also enjoyed her stain glass work, she ensured that each of her nieces and nephews were left with a stain glass lamp to remember her by. Her sense of humor, her strength and her determination will be remembered when each of us look at the lamps she has left us.

Doris was preceded in death by her sisters, Margaret Johnston, Leona Watson, Nancy Buser and Gladys Doyle; and her brother, William Brooke.

She is survived by her nieces, Lorie O’Donnell, Debbie Ikirt, Amy Kouch, Barbara Dipa-squali, Martha Elliot, Shirley McVey, Carol Gay and Doris Pettrone; and many, many adoring great nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave. (www.scarpellifh.com) on Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2014 from noon until 2 p.m.

A funeral service will be held at the funeral home at 2 p.m. with Pastor Doug Geeting officiating.

Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
