— MOUNT SAVAGE — Virginia L. (Leasure) Goebel, 75, of Mount Savage, passed away on July 13, 2013. Born June 24, 1938, in Cumberland, Virginia was the daughter of the late Ross and Ruth Leasure.

A graduate of Allegany High School in 1956, and Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1959, Virginia worked on the medical-surgical floors at the same hospital from 1959 to 1961. She worked as a surgical assistant to Dr. Carlton Brinsfield from 1961 to 1967.

Virginia’s faith in the Lord Jesus was first in her life. She expressed this by faithful service to her church, Calvary Bible Church in Ellerslie, where she taught Sunday School and worked with the Ladies’ Fellowship. Excelling in music, she sang in the choir and played both the piano and organ, assisting the church in their music.

Her family was all important and being a proud grandmother, she typically shared photos of her two lovely granddaughters with all her friends at every opportunity. Gardening and outdoor activities were shared with her husband, Charles. They also walked and hiked together. Loving to travel, they visited 49 states. Some of her best times were those spent with her nursing school friends with frequent lunches, picnics, and some overnight trips.

Virginia was always an encourager and helpful to those who needed her advice. She had a lovely smile and a personality that drew others to her. Her family and friends enjoyed the benefits of her loving concern for many years and will be forever grateful for the memories she left us all.

Virginia is survived by her husband of 49 years, Charles Robert Goebel; her son, Nathan Charles Goebel and wife Jennifer (Cool) Goebel; granddaughters, Preston Victoria and Caris Catherine; her brother, David R. Leasure and wife Rachel; and fifteen nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Calvary Bible Church, 13901 South Gardner St., Ellerslie on Monday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.

A funeral service will be conducted at the Calvary Bible Church in Ellerslie on Tuesday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Ken Korns and Pastor Greg Miller officiating.

Interment will be in the Maryland State Veteran’s Cemetery, Rocky Gap.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Scarpelli Funeral Home P.A. ( 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland.
